The VMIACC-5595-208 350-805595-208J is a management switch, which is a component of the GE Intelligent Platforms 5565 series of reflective memory real-time network products. It is designed to work as a hub, or central connection point, for these networks. If the reflective memory hub detects a loss of signal or a loss of effective synchronization mode, it can bypass the affected port, maintaining operation for the other nodes on the network.

The reflective memory switch has optical ports that are enabled by small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceivers, allowing only the ports needed to be populated. These SFP transceivers can be either multi-mode (for short distances) or single-mode (for long distances).
The switch can be cascaded to allow for larger networks, with a maximum of 256 nodes.
Each port in the switch regenerates the serial optical signal, reducing issues like insertion loss and cable attenuation. Signal regeneration also serves to minimize jitter.
There is an RS232 port that allows users to monitor and control the reflective memory network through a PC’s serial port.
An additional control register is available to manually disable transmissions from any port if needed.
