MVME5500 is a flagship single-board computer in Motorola’s VME(VersaModule Eurocard)product line,designed to meet the needs of OEMs(original equipment manufacturers)in defense,aerospace,industrial automation and medical imaging.The following is a detailed introduction to MVME5500:

I.Main features

High-performance processor:

MVME5500 is equipped with MPC7455 or MPC7457 processor with a main frequency of up to 1GHz(the processor models mentioned in different materials may be different,but the performance descriptions are similar),with powerful data processing capabilities.

Equipped with 512KB on-chip L2 cache and 2MB L3 cache,as well as AltiVec coprocessors for high-performance computing applications.

Balanced subsystem performance:

In addition to processor performance,MVME5500 also provides balanced memory,local bus and I/O subsystem performance.

The powerful Marvell Discovery(or Marvell system controller)supports a 133MHz host bus and a 133MHz SDRAM memory bus,which is a perfect match for high-speed processors.

Dual PCI Buses and PMC Sites:

The MVME5500 provides dual 64-bit,33/66MHz PCI buses,each with a PMC(Processor/Memory Card)site that supports cards running at 33 or 66MHz.

The Universe II VME interface and PMCspan connector are isolated from the PMC site on the dedicated 33MHz PCI bus segment,so both PMC sites can run at 66MHz.

Rich Network Interfaces and Serial Ports:

The MVME5500 is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet interface,a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface,and two serial ports,providing the device with powerful network communication capabilities.

High Scalability:

The MVME5500 can add up to 4 PMCs through a 64-bit PCI expansion mezzanine connector,further expanding the system’s I/O capabilities.

Onboard 512MB SDRAM ECC memory,512MB memory can be added through a memory mezzanine card,for a total of up to 1GB of memory.

40MB flash memory(32MB soldered and 8MB socketed)provides ample storage space.

Backward compatibility:

The MVME5500 series provides a migration path from Motorola embedded controllers and single-board computers(SBCs)to a single platform,and is backward compatible with earlier products such as the MVME5100 series.

Supports two jumper-configurable P2 I/O modes:PMC mode and IPMC mode to meet different I/O requirements.
