On site installation
G3 level(harsh)environment.
The FBM230 Field Device System Integrator(FDSI)module provides a serial interface between a single port field I/O device and EcoStruxure™FFoxboro™DCS system.FBM230 has four ports, each of which can be configured separately in RS232,RS422,or RS-485 software. This provides the flexibility to connect multiple similar but different devices for a single FBM230.The physical wiring complies with the Electronics Industry Association(EIA)standards RS-232,RS422,or RS-485.FBM230 and its related termination components(TA)are suitable for various connections with single port devices;Directly connect to the device; When used in conjunction with the RS-232 communication interface, the connection to the modem and the multi-point connection to the RS-485 device.
Serial link settings
The data communication between FBM230 and on-site devices is carried out through a 4-port terminal component(TA).Two different TAs,one with compression screw connection and the other with ring terminal block connection, each port has terminals for RS-422 and RS-485 wiring, and each port has a DIP switch selectable bus terminal resistor. For RS-232 wiring,TA has four standard DB-25 male connectors, each with a set of 24 DIP switches, which can be used in any RS-232 wiring configuration(such as connecting Clear to Send and Request to Send).
I/O driver program
This FBM is a universal hardware module that can load different software drivers. These drivers configure FBM to identify specific protocols used by on-site devices. Some software drivers are standard products.Other custom drivers can be developed to meet specific needs. These drivers are dynamically downloaded to FBM230,and the software code is specifically designed for protocol interfaces with third-party devices.
The configuration process and software requirements for each driver are unique to the devices integrated into the system.
Configure program
The FDSI configurator sets the FBM230 port through an XML device configuration file. The port configurator allows for easy setting of communication parameters for each port, such as communication interface standards, baud rate, and parity. Not all devices require a device configuration program, but when needed,it configures device specific and point specific considerations such as scan rate, data address to be transmitted, and quantity to be transmitted in a transaction.
Each FBM230 can access up to 64 RS-485 or up to 4 directly connected RS-232 or RS422 devices to read or write data. From the Foxboro DCS control station connected to FBM230(see Figure 1,page 3),up to 2000 Distributed Control Interface(DCI)data connections can be made to read or write data.
The supported data types are determined by a specific driver loaded on FBM230,which converts the data to the DCI data types listed below:
Simulate input or output values(integers or IEEE single precision floating-point)
•Single digital input or output value
Multiple(packed)digital input or output values(each connection can pack up to 32 digital points).
Therefore,FBM230 can access up to 2000 analog I/O values,or up to 64000 digital I/O values,or a combination of digital and analog values, distributed across the four ports of FBM230,up to the maximum capacity allowed by the user within the size criteria of the control processor. The frequency of accessing FBM230 data by the control station can be as fast as 500 milliseconds.Performance depends on each device type and the data layout within the device.FBM230 collects the required data from the device, performs necessary conversions, and then stores the converted data in its database for integration into Foxboro DCS factory management functions and operator displays.Data can also be written from the Foxboro DCS system to various devices.
Application field
