　　The 1746-A7 A-B SLC 500 chassis is a compact,easy to install,reliable,durable,and powerful chassis that can be used to install SLC 500 series PLC modules.This chassis can meet different application requirements and is widely used in various industrial control fields.

　　Allen Bradley 1746-A7 is an SLC 500 chassis with seven(7)slots.This SLC 500 chassis weighs 1.1 kilograms(2.4 pounds)and measures 28.2 x 17.1 x 14.5 centimeters or 11.3 x 6.8 x 5.8 inches.

　　Allen Bradley 1746-A7 includes a modular processor,communication adapter module,and input and output modules.This chassis is equipped with 7 slots and is part of the SLC 500 modular chassis,providing flexibility in system configuration.In a modular system,each chassis requires its own power supply.The SLC 500 1746-A7 modular chassis can be used as an independent unit in a system or in conjunction with one or two other local chassis.The chassis interconnect cable can be used to build multiple chassis configurations and extend signal lines.This can create up to a total of 30 I/O slots.Use 1746-C9 cables of different lengths or 1746-C16 cables to vertically interconnect the chassis.Both types of cables have rigid,non bending shrink packaging used to eliminate stress when connecting modules to each other.For horizontal layout,please use 1746-C7 cable.Do not use any other cables for setup.Long cables may affect the integrity of data communication,leading to unsafe operations.

　　The grounding connection from the 1746-A7 chassis to the grounding bus can reduce resistance.When grounding,do not place one terminal directly on top of another terminal.Compression can cause these connections to become loose.The maximum backplane current of 1746-A7 is 5.1 V DC(10A)or 24 V DC(2.88A).For optimal performance,please operate at temperatures ranging from 0°C to 60°C(32 to 140°F)and relative humidity ranging from 5%to 95%(non condensing).

　　1746-A7 is an SLC 500 chassis that can install SLC 500 modules,such as SLC processors,SLC IO modules,SLC communication adapters,and dedicated modules.

　　1746-A7 has seven(7)slots,which can be extended to up to 21 modules by connecting two(2)additional chassis from the main chassis where the controller is located.This is achieved by using interconnect cables with part numbers 1746-C9,1746-C7,and other interconnect cables of different lengths.Each chassis requires a separate power supply,but only one SLC 500 processor is needed.The processor should be fixed or installed on the mainframe.The expansion chassis is considered as a remote IO rack.

　　The SLC 500 comes with other models of chassis,including 1746-A13,1746-A10,and 1746-A4.All of these chassis(including 1746-A7)have embedded electronic circuits connected to power slots.This circuit serves as a backplane to distribute power to the inserted modules.It also serves as the exchange of information between processors and modules,therefore,the SLC 500 modular controller cannot operate without a chassis.

　　In other terms,the chassis can also be referred to as a rack or backplane.In typical applications,the chassis is installed horizontally.If the system requires multiple chassis,it is also allowed to install them side by side,provided that there is accurate panel space and the recommended spacing of 7.7 cm to 10.2 cm or 3.0 to 4.0 inches is maintained.
